Five Awarded Fellowships for Distinguished Students

Galloway, NJ 鈥 Five undergraduate students have been awarded 麻豆传媒 Board of Trustees Fellowships for Distinguished Students to complete special projects or research of a creative nature.
The five students were recognized at the Dec. 6 Board of Trustees meeting.
Recipients for the spring 2018 semester funding period are:
Andrew "Andy" J. Cross, a junior from Linwood, majoring in Sustainability, received a $1,000 fellowship for a project titled, 鈥淎nalysis of Stockton Farm Crop Health via Use of Near-infrared Aerial Imagery.鈥 His faculty advisor is Associate Professor of Biology Ron Hutchison.
Jade Gallucci, a senior from Sayreville, majoring in Health Science, received a $990 fellowship for research titled, 鈥淭owards Diversification: A Study to Understand and Improve Stockton's Campus for Culturally-and-Linguistically Diverse Students.鈥 Her faculty advisor is Associate Professor of Health Science Amee Shah.
Flor Cruz-Morillo, a senior from Atlantic City, majoring in Health Science, received a $1,000 fellowship for a project titled, 鈥淣ew Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) and College Pursuit.鈥 Her faculty advisor is Instructor of Health Science Anthony Dissen.
Brandon Morris, a senior from Galloway Township, majoring in Computer Science & Information Systems, and Catharine Tarquinio, a senior from Richland, majoring in Hospitality & Tourism Management and Computer Science & Information Systems, each received a $1,000 fellowship for a joint project titled, 鈥淐yber Security Education and Awareness.鈥 Their faculty advisor is Assistant Director of Information System and Security Administrator Demetrios Roubos.
Students said the research projects will give them valuable experience as they prepare for post-secondary degrees.
鈥淚鈥檓 looking at getting a master鈥檚 degree and this will jumpstart that process,鈥 Tarquinio said.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a good foundation for taking the next step,鈥 Gallucci added.
Cruz-Morillo said as an EOF student herself, she wants her project to help raise awareness of the program so more high school students can learn about it as an option to help pay for and succeed in college.
This is the 31st year that student fellowships have been awarded. To date 271 students have received fellowships. Their goal is to recognize academic excellence and foster partnerships among students, faculty and the community.
This year鈥檚 selection committee include faculty members Michael Scales and Benjamin Agyare, staff members Carole LoBue and Tomas Itaas, and students Syeda Sanjidha and William Watt.
